Is exercise a daily habit?  Is it part of your lifestyle yet?

If not, what’s stopping you?

Turning your fitness vision into a concrete reality requires long term discipline and consistency. And the best way to do so is by making your exercise routine a daily habit. Let’s face it: Human beings are creatures of habits. This mechanism evolved over 1000’s of years to conserve energy and optimize performance so instead of struggling to perform the daily task, the automatic pilot kicks in and takes control.
Therefore, if you’re looking to improve your fitness level by forming a healthy exercise habit, here are 4 guidelines that can help.

Exercise in the morning (if you can)
When it comes to achieving staggering consistency with a training program, picking the right exercise timing is critical. For that, and according to many studies, the best time of the day to go for a workout is in the early morning when the rest of the world is still asleep. Usually during this time of the day, there aren’t many things to do unless you prefer staying in the comfort of your bed.
If you think that you’re up to the challenge, get up out of bed and meet me at the CMF studio for a 7:00AM SPIN class Tuesdays and soon to be Thursdays.  If you have the time, follow it up with our 8:30AM Bodysculpting.
Can’t make it on Tuesdays and Thursdays, check out our Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30AM classes.
Commit For 30-Days
The best approach for forming a new habit is by committing to doing the new activity for at least 4 consecutive weeks, non-stop. As a result, make sure to block out a specific chunk on your daily calendar for the next 4 weeks; that’s your exercise calendar.

Commit to another person
Human beings are also social creatures; we dread social rejection and being disapproved of—even by people we don’t really like. So why not use this instinctive mechanism to your advantage. As a result, instead of being a lonely wolf, make sure to do the bulk of your training with a workout buddy or buddies at CMF. The latter must share your training vision and have similar fitness levels.
In addition, you can hold each other accountable for the actions you need to take while providing encouragement and incentives thus you’ll all see your consistency and performance levels going through the roof.

Make your exercise enjoyable
If your exercise is enjoyable and fun, then you’ll be looking forward to doing it. Nevertheless, not all workouts can be fun—especially if you like to up the ante and push your body to your next level. In fact, going out of your comfort zone is essential for growing and improving your fitness level. Nonetheless, you can inject some fun into your training program by doing the following:
  • Vary your training programs – this is where I come in. I try to keep it fresh, inventive and always changing.  Stagnant is not in my vocabulary.
  • Listen to your favorite music and keep updating your playlist with upbeat and inspiring tracks.  Want to hear something in class?  Let us know – we might have it.
  • Reward yourself for the hard efforts. Just make sure that the rewards are non-food based.
  • Keep track of your progress by taking measurements, before/after pictures, and soliciting compliments from your family members for progress.
Though these guidelines are simple and easy to follow, getting results requires rapid and consistent implementation. Make sure to put into action what you’ve just learned and remember to always exercise with your current fitness skill – DON’T push yourself to a point that your body is not ready for.

“When one approach is not working to reach the desired goal, that’s not a reason to abandon the goal. Instead, it is time to devise another approach.”
——Ralph Marston
We are getting ready to launch the first 8 week weight loss program.  Our orientation meeting will be Wednesday May 2 at 6:30PM right after Spin and Sculpt!
If you haven’t signed up, make sure you do soon.  Few spaces are left and remember, I can only take ten people per session.
We exercise together… why not loose weight together?  I love the group atmosphere and I can’t wait to get started on this program.  The support is awesome and just remember, this is not temporary – it’s a lifestyle and we will all be here for each other every step of the “weigh”.

In truth, the only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedes all others, is -I will form good habits and become their slave.
I committed to exercising 365 days a year…. holidays are no exception.
4/8: I walked the beautiful tree lined streets in my hometown.  The weather was an exceptional 88 degrees.  The skies were clear and the company of family was outstanding.

As a former Fitness Director and Group Exercise Coordinator for a chain fitness club I know how important it is to keep a steady stream of new and exciting classes on the schedule.  Spinning has been around for years as has sculpting or weight training classes but the fusion of the two is not as common.
Spin ‘N Sculpt, Coastal Motion’s newest addition, is an excellent class choice if you are short on time but need the benefits of cardio training as well as strength work. Resistance training is a necessary component in any fitness program, and a great complement to a cardio program. Our newest addition is 90 minutes.  Coastal Motion has brought this to you because we felt that you, the members, might prefer this class as a real endurance enhancer and prefer the longer class duration.
Just in case you are wondering – some of the benefits of this type of training are:
  • Increased muscle strength, power, endurance and size
  • Increased bone density and strength
  • Prevention of the onset of Osteoporosis
  • Reduced body fat
  • Weight loss
  • Increased muscle-to-fat ratio
  • Boosted metabolism
  • Lowered heart rate and blood pressure after exercise (thought to reduce the risk of heart disease)
  • Improved balance and stability
  • Enhanced performance of everyday tasks
  • Reduced risk of developing some conditions like diabetes
Spin ‘n Sculpt is a combo class format which can utilize many types of equipment in addition to the spin bike. Equipment such as flex bands, tubing, dumbbells, and exercise balls can be used to train the major muscle groups, paying special attention to the upper body and core since the legs were “hammered” during the spin.
We are excited to bring this to you and look forward to seeing you in it soon.  First official class (on 4/2) calculated 1200 calories burned in 90 minutes!
Remember, book your place online to secure your spot.

I want to send out a HUGE Congratulations to all of the members who are transforming their lives EVERYDAY!  Transformation. Mind, body, and spirit are directly related to the balance of each other. My father has always told me that you can do anything you want if you set your mind to it. We all have the power within to attract what we want in life, as well as what we do not want. As Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “Be careful what you wish for because you’re going to get it.” The energy you project out into the world will be exactly the type you receive back into your life. Your quality of life is what it is because of your thoughts, your energy, your health, and your lifestyle. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight but everyone has to start somewhere. Start where you are with what you have. Do not wait for something to change. “Don’t wait for an external change to make an internal move.”-Zig Ziglar. The time will never be just right; you have to want the change. You have to want to see the transformation take place in your life. Create a plan, maybe just start out writing down some thoughts about where you want to be in 3 months from now, a year, then 3 years, and 10. It’s funny how things begin to flow out of your mind and on to that sheet of paper or computer screen. As soon as you start thinking and writing, the energy begins to pour out and flow in the exact direction of your thoughts.  I do that a lot — ask my staff!
What are your dreams? Your dream job? Your dream car? Your dream fitness level? Write them down and post those dreams, ideas and goals all around the house. What do you do first thing in the morning? Those goals should be right there staring you in the face to remind you, to help you hold yourself accountable. It is only you that can create this change, create this momentum of positive action. Of course you’re going to have your up days and your down days. This is not an easy process but it is absolutely achievable. If being fit, healthy, and positive was easy then everyone would do it.  Losing 20lbs takesEFFORT, it takes FOCUS and you have to TAKE ACTION. Getting to that next level takesDISCIPLINE, it takes HARD WORK, and it takes COMPROMISE. Everyone has the ability to change his or her current status to a higher, healthier, happier level.
Do not just settle for where you are, even if you think it’s great, it can be BETTER.You must change internally to move forward, you must make compromises to fully transform your life. You must be willing to skip out on the happy hours and hit the gym for an hour. You do not have to jump into training for a marathon. You can start small if you have to by getting outside and walking. You don’t have to change your entire group of friends. Start by not being the crutch for that one person in your group of friends, co-workers, or family anymore.
Starting with small, obtainable goals will help you to reach your overall transformation. Dave Ramsey always says “Live like no one else, so you can live like no one else.” This is one of my top five favorite quotes. I love motivational and inspiring quotes from great leaders. Just as you can post your goals somewhere visible to continuously stay conscious of your direction and progress, you can post positive, uplifting quotes as well. It’s simple; don’t think too long about this process. Use a quote as your screensaver, desktop, laptop, or Smartphone background. Post them on a sticky note at your desk or office, on the dashboard of your car, or on the mirror in the bathroom. If you take these little steps to create change and momentum in your life, you become an enthusiastic, motivated, positively contagious person. You start to impact your friends, family, and co-workers without even knowing it. You literally exude an energy that everyone around you can feel. All you have to do is start, there is no deadline to complete a transformation, it is an ever-evolving journey. Nobody is perfect and there is no flawless way to live. You can however improve your own life and the lives of those you around you, you can take the reigns and point them in another direction. You can lose that weight, you can get that job or promotion, you can be a great father or mother, you can eat healthier, you can be a leader. You can transform your life. The start line is right here, right now. You are the one with the power to change, transform, and create the life, the mindset, and the body you have always wanted.

Start your transformation right now, create your vision, commit it to paper and persevere.  You CAN do anything you want if you set your mind to it.
